2022 Western Star 4700 TSBs

Key fobs for remote keyless entry on Western Star vehicles are delivered in packages that include a unique ID for the fob. The ID is required when pairing the key fob with a vehicle.

On certain Freightliner and Western Star vehicles with Detroit Diesel engines, the engine fan fails to activate when the A/C pressure switch circuit is opened, resulting in poor A/C cooling performance at idle.

Model Year 2022 Freightliner, Western Star, Freightliner Custom Chassis, and Thomas Built Bus vehicles manufactured with the following engines have been built without a Particulate Matter (PM)/Soot sensor: DD15 Gen 5 (Gats 2.0) (with a June 2021 or later GHG build date) DD13 Gen4 (1-box) (with a June 2021 or later GHG build date) Cummins B6.7 (with a June 2021 or later GHG build date) Cummins X15 with ratings of 400-500HP (with a June 2021 or later GHG build date) As a result, the vehicle has a non-conforming On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) system. The engine manufacturers will pay to install the OBD PM sensor and corresponding software through a recall once sensors become available.

Production Schedule Update We recently communicated to our Freightliner Trucks dealer distribution network the rolling production delays for medium-duty truck models built at our Mount Holly and Santiago Truck Manufacturing Plants(TMP). The effects of the COVID-19 pandemic continue to impact global semiconductor supply chains and the prolonged duration of these shortages have reached our heavy-duty truck supply chain as well.

The updated times will be applied to repair orders opened on or after April 5, 2021.

REVISION: Some vehicles formerly in Group F have been moved to Group G and have been assigned a new part number as specified in Table 1. An SRT for 'Calibration Code Only: Update or Confirm' has been added, as shown in Table 2, to be used when a new DEF header is not required. There have been some other minor changes to the work instructions and SRT times.

The updated after treatment system (ATS) diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) pump times will be applied to repair orders opened on or after April 12, 2021.

Transmission will not shift into Gear while driving or will not start and trigger multiple PT CAN Fault Codes.

Western Star 4700, 4800, 4900, and 6900 models; the plant has also reached the maximum paint process capacity for multi-color and custom paint designs. Due to the capacity constraint, the Western Star CAE team will no longer accept Truck Change Orders requesting changes from a single color paint to a multi-color paint or custom paint design for vehicles building at the Portland Truck Plant through the end of 2021.
