To detect which line(s) is inoperative, utilize a volt meter to check for 0 V, which will be present after the open in the grid line.

Engine oil may cause the water pump gasket to swell, which may lead to a coolant leak. If water pump replacement is necessary, ensure that any engine oil is thoroughly cleaned off, prior to water pump installation. Please note that when replacing the water pump or opening the cooling system, there is a special bleed procedure that has to be performed. Vacuum bleed the cooling system for 10 minutes. Start the engine and let idle until the thermostat opens and the cooling fan runs, before driving vehicle or raising engine RPM.
After a cold start, the engine coolant temperature gauge will slowly rise to approximately 190 F.

vibration damper (harmonic balancer) and the crankshaft timing chain sprocket to the crankshaft. Once the damper is removed, the crankshaft should not be rotated unless special tool spacer T10368 has been installed. The crankshaft timing chain sprocket and spur gear drive on the crankshaft have a coupling that must be seated correctly during assembly. Failure to install special tool spacer T10368 before rotating engine will cause the engine to skip time and bend valves.
CBFA 2.0T TSI Engine
Install a vacuum gauge on the dipstick tube and check crankcase vacuum at idle.

Compare to a known good vehicle. If the vacuum reading is lower than the comparison vehicle, visually inspect for oil leaks between the engine and the transmission. Smoke test the crankcase by connecting the EVAP smoke machine to the dipstick tube and inspect for leaks at the rear main seal (this will limit pressure to 2 PSI). DO NOT apply shop air to the dipstick tube or the crankcase. If a rear main seal leak is identified, replace the seal. Once replaced, recheck crankcase vacuum at idle. If low, check for additional oil leaks and verify crankcase breather operation (repairing as necessary). Erase the faults and road test 10 miles to recheck operation.

When installing an engine, flywheel or transmission, please follow the installation procedures outlined in ELSA. For the flywheel/flexplate, please be certain the correct shim is installed between it and the crankshaft (reference VWIQ120). When installing a torque converter, press the torque converter hub through the seal as far as the first stop. Turn the torque converter while pushing toward the transmission using light force, until the cut outs in the torque converter hub lock into the pump wheel plate. The torque converter slides in. The torque converter is installed correctly if it is easy to turn by hand and if it fits evenly in the transmission bell housing. Additionally, it should spin freely when the transmission bell housing bolts are torqued to the engine block, prior to installation of the flywheel to converter bolts (reference VWIQ121).

When the sunroof is closed and the rotary switch is pressed down in the closed direction for longer than 10 seconds, the basic setting program of the sunroof motor is initiated, and previous sunroof travel limits are lost. If the basic setting is not fully restored (by continuing to hold the rotary switch in the down position until the sunroof has completed its full open/closed travel), fault codes (panoramic sunroof only) will set and the sunroof can no longer be opened. In order to provide effective lubrication and cooling of internal engine components, all internal combustion engines consume a certain amount of engine oil. Oil consumption varies from engine to engine and may change significantly over the life of the engine. Typically, engines with specified break-in periods consume more oil during the break-in period, and the oil consumption will stabilize after the break-in period. Refer to the Owners Manual for specific break-in procedures. Under normal conditions, the rate of oil consumption depends on the quality and viscosity of the oil, the RPM at which the engine is operated, the ambient temperature and road conditions. Further factors include the amount of oil dilution from water condensation or fuel residue and the oxidation level of the oil. If the fluid is not blue in color, drain the fluid, remove the sensor and clean with cleaner (D-009-401-04) or equivalent. Reinstall the sensor, top off washer reservoir with proper fluid and validate that the indicator lamp in the I.P. is no longer illuminated.

Debris can be dispersed throughout the refrigerant circuit after a/c component damage. In order to maintain A/C operating efficiency, it is important to flush the refrigerant circuit after A/C component repairs.

To check the one way clutch, remove the belt from the generator pulley and use a trim removal tool to hold fan blades inside generator, as shown below. When attempting to turn pulley by hand with fan blades held, pulley should spin freely in only one direction. If pulley spins freely in both directions, the one way clutch has failed and should be replaced before continuing diagnosis.

At this time, Volkswagen Group of America, Volkswagen Canada do not support or warranty any use of aftermarket universal automatic transmission fluids or the machines used to flush the transmissions. This applies to all standard automatic and DSG transmissions. Due to the functional and design variations in each automatic transmission, the transmission fluid is developed and used by Volkswagen for specific purpose within each application. Under no circumstances are these fluids to be used outside their designated transmission and replacing any of the Volkswagen approved automatic transmission fluids with a universal ?one fluid fits all? approach is not accepted.

To verify correct line installation, remove the metal cover exposing the fuel pump flange assembly (generally under the rear seat). Refer to the ELSA Repair Manual for specific location. Check for raised arrows on the flange housing. The black line (Fuel Pressure Supply) attaches to the connection with the arrow pointing away from it. The blue line (fuel return) attaches to the connection with arrow pointing to it.

Experience Team has monitored the claims processed through the Carefree Maintenance (CFM) program from its inception. Their findings reveal that, in many cases, the first maintenance interval service (10K) has been claimed multiple times while subsequent maintenance interval services (20K and 30K), although being performed for the customer, have been submitted erroneously. It is crucial that Volkswagen of America receives accurate claim coding information regarding the Carefree Maintenance (CFM) Program. Accurate claim data enables Volkswagen to assist Dealers to improve their CFM penetration and customer return rates. In addition, it allows VWoA to assess the perceived benefits of the program to our customers. To assist Dealer Service Departments in determining the most appropriate service number and maintenance interval to use, Volkswagen has established the guidelines in this document.

The GFF test plan for this fault may prove inconclusive and the fault may not clear, even after performing TPMS reset using the button in glove box or through the MFI. To resolve fault, use ODIS control module OBD or VAS PC Vehicle self-diagnosis to run basic settings 42 under address 03 - Brake Electronics. After selecting basic settings 42, an activate button may be present, but should not be used. The display will change to "reset" once the procedure is complete. After completing basic settings, back out of Brake Electronics and remove the scan tool. Reset TPMS by pressing the "set" button in the glove box or making appropriate selection through MFI, and then road test vehicle to ensure fault does not return.

A new MDI cable (?MDI Adapter Cable ? Lightning Charger?) is now available through the VW Accessories eCatalog that is made for use with iPhone 5 variants as well as the previously mentioned iPad/iPod models.
