of the blower motor becoming inoperative. If this issues occurs on models with Auto A/C, the blower fan may become totally inoperative. If this issue occurs on models with Manual A/C, the blower fan may operate on high speed only. The root cause of these conditions is water intrusion into the blower motor causing rust and corrosion to develop. Over time, the blower motor may begin to draw more electrical current to operate. if that occurs, the additional draw can cause the related fuse and/ or blower resistor to fail. To address this condition, additional packing has been added to improve sealing of the blower unit case along with development of a new style cabin air filter which also in corporates improved sealing.

10165550

This bulletin announces a design change made to the front door glass run channels.

Read full bulletin

Water can enter the run channels and cause a stick-slip (judder) condition to occur as the door glass opens and closes. The judder is transferred through the window regulator mechanism in the form of mechanical resistance to the electric window motor. On models equipped with the Auto-up and Auto-down feature, if the level of this resistance increases enough, the auto-reversing (anti-entrapment) feature can activate and cause an inability to close the window.

There have been isolated cases where the sealer used between the upper oil pan and the crankcase has become displaced resulting in engine oil seepage. Revisions made to the upper oil pan casting: * The mating flange thickness of the casting in the area identified as the cause for the seepage has been increased by 5.5mm. (See images provided in the Parts Information section below.) This thickness increase creates the need for a longer bolt to provide proper tightening and retention. * An additional mounting point has been added to the ribbing inside the casting to increase retention of the steel baffle plate and eliminate vibration.

THIS BULLETIN PROVIDES ADDITIONAL INFORMATION (SEE TSB 07-76-13R DATED 7/8/2013) REGARDING THE PRG SYSTEM OPERATION AND INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE.

Read full bulletin

IF YOU RECEIVE A CUSTOMER CONCERN OF A BEEPBEEP- BEEP SOUND WHEN TRYING TO OPERATE THE PRG, A LIKELY CAUSE IS AN INCOMPLETE INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE. INITIALIZATION OCCURS ANY TIME THE AUTO CLOSER FUNCTION OPERATES. IT MUST COMPLETE EVERY TIME THE PRG IS OPERATED (CLOSED) IN ORDER FOR THE PRG TO WORK PROPERLY THE NEXT TIME ONE OF THE ACTIVATION SWITCHES IS OPERATED. IF A VOLTAGE DROP OCCURS (E.G. CRANKING THE ENGINE) DURING THE EXACT TIME THIS INITIALIZATION PROCEDURE IS IN PROCESS, THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THE PROCEDURE WILL NOT COMPLETE PROPERLY AND (ALTHOUGH SECURELY CLOSED AND LATCHED) THE PRG SYSTEM WILL BE RENDERED INOPERATIVE. DURING THIS TIME, THE GATE WILL OPERATE MANUALLY HOWEVER THE PRG FUNCTIONS WILL BE DISABLED. IF THE CUSTOMERS NORMAL USAGE PATTERN CREATES THIS CONDITION REGULARLY, A COUNTERMEASURE PRG CONTROL UNIT HAS BEEN DEVELOPED TO REMEDY IT.

This is to advise you of the current situation for supply of 2014 Forester Carpet Floor Mats.

SOA sincerely appreciates the difficulty that dealers are encountering by not having mats for the new Forester. Please understand that we are taking every possible effort to resolve this problem. Unfortunately, we have been unable to obtain any supply of floor mats from our current supplier, which meet our quality requirements. Therefore, we are re-sourcing these mats from another supplier. Our current expectation is that mats will be available in early to mid June. We also must advise dealers that the use of non-genuine or aftermarket floor mats is not recommended, due to safety concerns. However, SOA does have a limited supply of all weather mats for the 2014 Forester, for dealers that need a solution for a retail customer. These mats can be obtained by contacting the Parts Information Coordinators at 1-866-782-2782.

NOTE: The Airbag systems used on previous and current WRX, STI and Tribeca models are NOT equipped with EDR functionality.

Read full bulletin

This Bulletin provides information regarding Event Data Recorder (EDR) functionality which has been incorporated into the airbag system. The function of the EDR is best explained using the following statements found in the vehicle Owner?s Manual: ?This vehicle is equipped with an event data recorder (EDR). The main purpose of an EDR is to record, in certain crash or near crash-like situations such as an airbag deployment or hitting a road obstacle, data that will assist in the understanding how a vehicle?s systems performed. The EDR is designed to record data related to vehicle dynamics and safety systems for a short period of time, typically 30 seconds or less. The EDR in this vehicle is designed to record such data as: ? How various systems in your vehicle were operating; ? Whether or not the driver and passenger safety belts were buckled/fastened; ? How far (if at all) the driver was depressing the accelerator and/or brake pedal; ? How fast the vehicle was traveling. This data can help provide a better understanding of the circumstances in which crashes and injuries occur.

We have good news to report.

Forester Carpet Floor Mats are now in production with a new supplier, and we will be shipping product starting next Monday, June 3. Mats will be shipped to every dealer, based on vehicles subject to the recall and based on vehicles sold without mats plus vehicles in dealer inventory. Dealers do not have to order these mats. We fully expect that production and our shipments will be sufficient to cover all of the dealer requirements by mid June. After the dealer needs are met, we will resume shipping Foresters from the ports with mats. Customer notification letters for the recalled units will be mailed early the week of June 3. At that time we will also provide the recall bulletin and claim procedures. Dealers will need to contact their customers who were delivered a car without mats to arrange for installation of the new mats once they have mats in inventory. We ask that dealers prioritize mats for vehicles which have already been sold to customers. We thank you very much for your patience and understanding during this unusual situation.
