ADJUSTER Valve Lash Customer's complaint may include a ticking noise coming from the engine.

Read full bulletin

Technician's observations can refer to spongy or stuck hydraulic lash adjusters. Exhaust lash adjusters found with a "spongy" condition (compressible plunger) leading to the assumption of being defective/malfunctioning. EXHAUST lash adjusters are designed to be COMPRESSIBLE by hand. Intake lash adjusters found with a stiff or stuck condition (non-compressible plunger) leading to the assumption of being defective/malfunctioning. INTAKE lash adjusters are designed to be NON COMPRESSIBLE by hand. Do Not Replace EXHAUST lash adjusters when the following condition is present: should be compressible, but they will exert a reactionary spring force during compression and return to full expansion without a compression force. Do Not Replace INTAKE lash adjusters when the following condition is present: should feel very firm and difficult to compress. Once the correct functioning of the intake and exhaust lash adjusters is validated with the procedure above, refer to the Service Manual "HYDRAULIC LIFTER(S) NOISE DIAGNOSIS" procedure. After the corresponding service procedures from the Service Manual involving the Lash Adjusters have been conducted, refer to the detailed instructions in the Service Manual to diagnose and/or service any other component.

These conditions may be related to worn intake camshaft high lift lobe(s), and intake rocker arm(s) high lift slider. High mileage failure (10,000-60,000 miles). 1. Remove the valve cover(s) per the released service procedures. The use of a stethoscope or DTC specific cylinder misfire codes can help to locate the condition to the left or right bank. 2. Once it has been visually confirmed that there is wear on the high lift intake lobe(s) & rocker arm(s) slider, there is a special service kit for this type of repair which should be used, instead of replacing the complete engine/long block. Check DTCs in DCM and check the component they are pointing to, depending on the case follow one of the procedures below: If DTC Door Lock/Unlock Switch Stuck is present: - check wiring between door module and lock/unlock switch, if there is no problem there, check lock/unlock switch and replace it. If DTC Lost communication with Master window switch is present: - check the window switch wiring, if there is no problem there, check the window switch and replace it. If DTCs related to window circuit control shorted and/or window lost calibration are present: - check Wiring between motor and hall sensor to Door module. If there is no problem there, check window seal and track to allow travel only within proper limits, reset module and perform window calibration, if problem continues, check window motor, and if needed, replace it. At the end of the procedure: Reset DDM/PDM and perform window calibration, if DTC goes stored, the repair is correct. If the window does not work replace DDM/PDM. ************DO NOT USE THIS PROCEDURE FOR REAR WINDOWS, REAR WINDOWS ARE NOT CONTROLED BY DDM or PDM***************
