F56 Make Good Program: Install Accessory Roof Graphic or Mirror Caps.

Read full bulletin

Due to production restrictions at Plant Oxford, certain F56 vehicles produced in May and June of this year cannot be built with the factory option for the contrasting roof and/or mirror caps. This production issue was caused by the plant expanding its paint capabilities to meet increasing vehicle demand. In a continuing effort to maintain the utmost in Motorer satisfaction, MINI USA is offering our dealer partners an alternative solution, the "Make Good" program. For all affected MINI F56 vehicles: * Produced from May 1, 2014 to June 30, 2014 and * Built without the factory order "Contrasting Roof and Mirror Caps" option (382 and 383) Your MINI dealer can offer these Motorers the installation of an accessory roof graphic or set of mirror caps. The Motorer has the choice of either the accessory roof graphic or exterior mirror caps, not both. MINI Area Manager (AM) "Field Authorization" (FAS) is not required. Note: For eligible vehicles (VINs) that are affected by this production restriction, the procedure outlined in this bulletin only applies to mirror caps or roof graphics installed by your dealer. Mirror caps or roof graphics installed through the MINI USA "VIA" (VDC-Installed Accessory) program are not eligible for reimbursement through this Make Good Program.

"MINI ""AMP-up"" Motorer Care Fleet Increases.

Read full bulletin

MINI USA, a division of BMW of North America, LLC (""MIN USA""), is pleased to introduce the Aftersales Mobility Program (AMP) Motorer Care Fleet Increase. The ""AMP-up"" program is designed to support (on a temporary basis) your alternate transportation needs, even in challenging times. When a significant ""service initiative"" (Recall, Service Action or other program) is identified by MINI USA, and this ""AMP-up"" bulletin is referenced under the ""Alternate Transportation"" heading, it will allow you to temporarily ""AMP-up"" your fleet so you can focus on the important things, like Motorer care. We anticipate an increased AMP car demand, in volume and duration, in association with a release of a service initiative. Your Area Manager (AM) has a procedure to assist you in calculating and determining if a temporary fleet increase is needed at your dealer. This option is not available if your dealer already has an approved and active temporary fleet increase in place. Example communication within a service initiative or critical Motorer care notifications: Please refer to AMP Bulletin M01 12 14 for process details. In the communication example above, the following would be required: * All requests must be submitted no later than the Submission Period specified above. * An additional number of vehicles may be added to your existing fleet immediately upon approval and fully utilized for the duration of the pre-determined Increase Period. * Your fleet must be restored to pre-Motorer Care approved limits by the Fleet level Restoration Deadline date, without exception."

Information section: defect code, labor operations and additional information are updated . The Service Engine Soon (MIL) light is on with the following fault stored in the DME. ? Fault: 118002 - Mixture too rich In the situation being described, the fault is only stored during the ""cold winter months along with the use of winter fuel."" Various other causes for a rich mixture fault are possible and should not be overlooked. CAUSE ? DME software diagnostic is too sensitive ? This situation is most likely to occur if the driving profile is one of frequent cold engine starts and/or primarily short distance trips (idle / low load operation) where full engine operating temperature is not reached. ? Due to the lower engine oil temperatures crankcase vapors that contain a higher fuel content are not completely drawn off via the crankcase ventilation system. ? A false DME adaptation routine could then lead to this fault being set."

MINI electrical systems have continued to develop over the past few years.

Read full bulletin

As a result, the demand on the batteries has increased. Breakdowns due to an empty battery or problems in the vehicles electrical system can have various causes, most of which are not due to the battery itself. For this reason, a battery replacement will permanently eliminate the problem only in the rarest of cases. The energy diagnosis test module helps to localize these causes. This document covers important information for the dealer on how to handle discharged battery complaints. Without performing the energy diagnosis test plan, the root cause of a discharged battery cannot be identified. In order to properly repair the vehicle the first time, it is very important that the diagnostic test plan is performed to completion; with all results taken into consideration.

Automated Activation of Navigation System During PDI/QC1.

Read full bulletin

INFORMATION Important: The INITIAL NAV enabling code no longer needs to be pre-ordered through the Parts department! When the vehicle is connected to the diagnostic system ISTA to perform PDI/QC1, the step to activate the navigation system (part of Delete Transport Mode) will automatically request the INITIAL NAV enabling code (VIN-specific) without pre-ordering the enabling code. This enabling code will be automatically delivered through ISTA and it then activates the navigation system. Note: This VIN-specific NAV enabling code is then also automatically stored in the Repair Kit in the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP). The automated INITIAL NAV enabling code request and activation of the navigation system will take no longer than 1 minute. After finishing "Delete Transport Mode," the navigation system in the vehicle will be active without entering the 20-digit INITIAL NAV enabling code manually or in ISTA. If the navigation system is not active and asking for the enabling code, turn off the ignition and wait for the head unit to enter sleep mode (approx. 3 minutes). After that, turn on the ignition again. The head unit will start up and the navigation system is activated. If the INITIAL NAV enabling code for first-time activation of the navigation system is not requested or delivered automatically, it still can be ordered manually through the Parts department and activated in the vehicle by entering the 20-digit enabling code manually.

"Discharged Battery: Energy Diagnosis Must Be Performed.

Read full bulletin

MINI electrical systems and advancements in vehicle technology have resulted in an increased demand on the vehicle battery. This SI will help the dealer handle ""discharged battery"" complaints. A discharged battery can have various causes, most unrelated to the battery. A failed battery is often the symptom and not the cause. A fully serviceable battery fails when an electrical component causes the battery to discharge; the battery becomes internally damaged and must be replaced. For more information, refer to http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-42B.htm. For this reason, replacing the battery is not usually a permanent repair. The cause of the discharged battery must be analyzed in order to guarantee a proper repair. To repair the vehicle properly the first time in the workshop, the diagnostic test plans must be performed to completion, with all results taken into consideration. Without performing the energy diagnosis test plan, the root cause of the discharged battery cannot be identified. This increases the chances of a repeat repair. Discharged battery."

XM Satellite Radio Reception.

Read full bulletin

INFORMATION Currently Satellite Radio is provided by SiriusXM for MINI customers. SiriusXM is the only company currently broadcasting Satellite Radio in North America. Satellite radio was broadcast from two different sets of Satellites using different earth orbits. XM uses geosynchronous (GEO) satellites located roughly above the equator. This means that the satellite signal to some parts of the United States can come in at an angle as low as 32 degrees to the horizon. This is different than Sirius Satellites in a Highly Elliptical Orbit (HEO) which came in to the vehicle at a higher angle to the horizon. As of April 2016 Sirius equipped head units moved to the XM Satellites constellation and now show the same location based cutouts.

INFORMATION Highlights of R-1234yf Meets SAE J2888_201301 ""This SAE Standard covers fittings, couplers, and hoses intended for connecting service hoses from mobile air- conditioning Systems to service equipment such as charging, recovery and recycling equipment"". New tools and equipment are required. To service vehicles equipped with R-1234yf refer to SI M04 01 16. Air conditioning technician certification is required to work on system. Refer to your State Law. Unique low and high side fittings. Revised evaporator core as per SAE J2842. System will use about 5% more refrigerant than a comparable R134a system. System oil is a specific PAG oil. Refer to ISTA repair recommendation. Do not interchange components between systems using other refrigerants. Do not reuse Seals / O-ring material from another system. The system piping has internal heat exchangers (IHX or IWT). SAFETY INFORMATION Several precautions need to be observed when working on automotive air conditioning systems: Always wear eye protection and gloves while handling refrigerant or servicing air conditioning system. Avoid breathing R1234yf lubricant vapor or mist. Use only approved service equipment to discharge A/C systems. If refrigerant or compressor oil contacts the skin or eyes, large quantities of cool water should be used to flush the affected area. Never heat a refrigerant container with an open flame. Keep all refrigerant away from open flames. Under no circumstances should R1234yf service equipment or vehicle A/C systems be pressure tested or leak tested with air/R1234yf mixtures. NOTE: The use of compressed air (shop air) for leak detection in an R1234yf system can contaminate the system and/or refrigerant with moisture. Leak detection equipment that meets the SAE J2791 standard will work with R1234yf Never use fittings for an R12 or R134a system on an R1234yf system. HU-H Headunit: Navigation System Road Map Usage.

Read full bulletin

INFORMATION For the US market, all vehicles come pre-loaded from the factory with the latest navigation system road map database version that was available at the time of vehicle production. Therefore, there will be no physical copy of the navigation system road map data media DVD set or USB stick placed in these vehicles at the Vehicle Distribution Center (VDC). NOTE: Additionally, all replacement HU-H parts come with a pre-loaded version of the current available navigation system road map database installed. A set of DVD copies of the navigation system road map database, HU-H NAVI Road Map North America NEXT, is shipped to all MINI dealers through the automatic tool shipment program with each release of a navigation system road map database. IMPORTANT: Additional copies or earlier NAV road map database versions cannot be ordered individually! Therefore, please take special care to archive the HU-H NAV road map DVD sets! The NAV road map data on the DVD set can also be installed into the Network Attached Storage (NAS). From there, it can then be installed onto the HU-H in the vehicle, using the Integrated Service Technical Application for Programming (ISTA/P). For installation of the navigation system road map data media DVD set into the Network Attached Storage (NAS), please contact your ISPI NEXT Administrator. In addition to this procedure, it is also possible to download the NAV road map data on the DVD set directly onto the hard disc drive (HDD) integrated into the HU-H by inserting the DVDs one by one into the HU-H internal DVD drive. It will take approximately 2 to 2.5 hours to download the entire database. Please note that the HU-H NAV road map DVD set is for workshop use only, and is not to be left in customers' vehicles.

may be influencing reception quality. MINI is currently working with the wireless mobile providers in order to improve the quality of reception and help alleviate the issues that are caused by the wireless mobile expanded frequencies. Once we have more information about this situation this service information bulletin will be updated. Currently Satellite Radio is provided by SiriusXM for MINI customers via geosynchronous (GEO) satellites located roughly above the equator. This means that the satellite signal to some parts of the United States can come in at an angle as low as 32 degrees to the horizon. Due to this angle, buildings, hills, trees, highway sound blocking walls or other obstacles might block the satellite signal coming from reaching the vehicle receiver antenna and might cause audio cut outs, unless the wireless provider has installed terrestrial repeaters. Reception quality decreases the further north you travel, as the angle of the incoming signal gets smaller. Also adverse weather conditions might affect reception. At this time, in the event of a customer complaint or inquiry on interference noise: ? Do not replace any parts ? Do not program or carry out other work on the vehicle ? Explain to customer about the new Wireless Communications Service (WCS) signalsWhen investigating Satellite Radio cutouts or a temporary loss of reception: ? Please compare to a similarly equipped vehicle. Keep in mind the roofline of the vehicle, size of the antenna (sharkfin) and location of the antenna on the vehicle will all affect the strength of the reception. Do not compare a Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV) with a high roofline mounted antenna to a different vehicle such as a coupe or convertible with a much lower mounting point of the antenna.

Leak detection equipment that meets the SAE J2791 standard will work with R1234yf Never use fittings for an R12 or R134a system on an R1234yf system. Any difficulty in connecting service equipment may be an indication of refrigerant/equipment incompatibility with the vehicle's system. Always carefully ascertain the type of refrigerant used in the vehicle's system before performing service. Labels on underside of hood, will detail which refrigerant is used in the air conditioning system. Service the vehicle with compatible recycling equipment ONLY. Attempts to adapt and use incompatible service tools will destroy both the vehicle's air conditioning system and the service tool. Never use any R-12/R134a service tools on R1234yf systems. Tools, such as manifold gauge sets, retain small amounts of refrigerant and lubricant. Attempting to use the same equipment on both R-12/R134a and R1234yf vehicles will contaminate the air conditioning systems. Obtain and use the correct type of refrigerant recovery/recycling machine. Follow the directions included in the machine's instruction manual. WARR

Analysis of FASTA data and repeat repair visit reports indicates that there are many fault codes that are stored in the above vehicles, but they are not diagnosed to identify their root cause. Fault codes that are not diagnosed to find their root cause can lead to a repeat repair visit to the workshop by the customer. Where diagnosis (vehicle or short test) with ISTA has already started, it is important to diagnose the fault code(s) listed below (when they are stored in the vehicle) during the current workshop visit. This will help lead to a reduction in workshop repeat repair visits and higher customer satisfaction.
