DC/DC converter is not providing any output voltage or output current Cause: Due to a reduction in resistance at the HV voltage divider, the DC/DC converter measures an incorrect HV voltage. Regulation of the 12 V output voltage is therefore unstable or turns off. Remedy: Check of the DC/DC converter via XENTRY Diagnosis Actuate BUCK mode for approx. 40 s Normally, the output current will jump up to a high value (e.g. 100 A) and then slowly drop to the current specified value (e.g. 50 A) and then only change slowly and in small increments (video in attachment). In the event of this error cause, the DC/DC converter may react in two possible ways: 1) Despite displayed BUCK mode, the DC/DC converter does not provide any output voltage or output current (video in attachment). 2) The output voltage and output current may experience significant fluctuations/jumps (several 1-10 A) (video in attachment). Perform in XENTRY -> DC/DC converter N83/1 -> Special procedures -> "Evaluation of the HV resistance reduction of the DC/DC converter control unit". The special procedure compares the serial number of the installed DC/DC converter with the list of potentially affected parts. Depending on the result: If the serial number can be found in the list of potentially affected component parts, then replace the DC/DC converter. If the serial number cannot be found in the list of potentially affected parts but the problem described applies, then please open a TIPS case and forward to HQ.

Cause The XENTRY battery tester uses the stored on-board electrical system data in the SAM module to access the health of the 12 volt battery. The XENTRY battery test may not take into account a single discharge event because the SAM or EZS cannot record the data if the battery is discharged. Note: A discharged battery does not necessarily need to be replaced. A discharged battery may be recovered with no permanent damage. Remedy 1) If the battery is discharged, charge the battery. Review WS54.00-P-0037B for minimum charger specifications. Note the amperage difference between trickle (maintainer) chargers of at least 16A and quick chargers of at least 30A. Review AP54.10-P-5449U. Note when battery is sufficiently charged the charger current is less 5A. 2) While charging the battery, analyze the vehicle data to determine root cause of discharge using the following data points: NOTE: For guidance on use of the on-board electrical data please review the AKUBIS video titled "New onboard electrical system diagnosis shown on BR 166". The video can be accessed through WIS by following the path WSM--> content by model series --> passenger cars --> ML-Class --> Model 166 --> group 54 --> New onboard electrical system diagnosis. Refer to the March 2023 PCTT for the video walkthrough of analysis as well as the attachment of the slides to this Li. For Star 2 vehicles: -Review FSAM on-board electrical data conspicuous records NOTE: This data can be found via FSAM N10/6 -> Actual Values -> On-board electrical system -> On-board electrical system data For Star 3 vehicles: -Review N73/3 EZS on-board electrical data conspicuous records NOTE: This data can be found via EZS N73/3 -> Actual Values -> On-board electrical system -> On-board electrical system data 3) Determine if root cause is due to: vehicle technical issue? customer behavior? NOTE: Recommend using battery analysis sheet found in XiW -> Local Contents -> Diagnostic info -> Battery Discharge Worksheet 4) If battery still does not accept charge, create a TIPS case. -Must include with the case: Amperage setting of charger and time battery was on charger XENTRY Battery Tester results Voltage of battery taken with multimeter: Do not connect charger while taking measurements N10/6 FSAM and N73/3 EZS CUL Workshop analysis of conspicuous data Root cause analysis for battery discharge based on the above documents (technical, customer, etc.) NOTE: For expedited results when creating a case write customer complaint as "XENTRY Battery Tester implausible".

Cause Accidental or unnoticed activation of the button to open the tailgate on the vehicle key. E.g. when stored in trouser pocket, handbag etc. Remedy As of the 6th generation, the vehicle key can be recoded so that the tailgate no longer opens as a result of a long press on the button, but by double-clicking on the button instead. This reduces the likelihood of the button being activated accidentally or unintentionally. The recoding can be carried out as follows: 1. Enter AO Code O19 into VeDoc (O for Oscar, not "zero") 2. EZS N73: Perform SCN coding 3. Deactivate the vehicle key (a successful deactivation is indicated by the LED lighting up 2x briefly and then 1x for a long period). 4. Place the vehicle key on the key symbol in the storage compartment and then switch on the ignition. All other vehicle keys must be outside of the vehicle when doing this! Perform steps 3 and 4 successively for all vehicle keys. Notes: 6th, 7th and 8th generation keys can be deactivated as follows: Up to modification year 22/1 double-click on the locking button As of modification year 22/1, by pressing and holding the locking button + double-clicking on the release tab On model series 167, the storage compartment with the key symbol is located in the armrest. The SCN coding from the EZS is only transferred correctly to the vehicle key under the following conditions: Only one vehicle key is located in the vehicle, this key has been deactivated and it is positioned on the marking in the storage compartment for the data transfer. The costs for this adaptation are to be borne by the customer.

Complaint The electric range does not meet customer's expectations.
Read full bulletin
Cause The following information is being provided for educational purposes only: At Mercedes-Benz, we believe that our vehicles should display to the driver a range that in all probability can actually be achieved. These ranges are predictions - the range actually achieved may therefore differ from the range shown. The calculation for the predicted range takes into account the current outside temperature, the set temperature of the air conditioning system, the battery capacity and the characteristics of previous journeys (sporty/anticipatory driving style). Where previous journeys are concerned, factors given particular consideration are individual driving style and the use of other power consumers (seat heating, lights, charging function for smartphones, etc.). It is therefore possible that data from the last few hundred kilometers driven is also used in the calculation. Consequently any change in usage behavior will only slowly affect the predicted range. If active navigation or active commuter route is used, additional information about the route ahead (for example elevation profile, traffic volume) can be included in the range calculation. Remedy The customer's individual input to the range can be reset. Depending on the vehicle, the reset can be done in the instrument cluster or the head unit. For plug-in hybrid vehicles of model series 166 (all), 205 (up to modification year 18/1), 213 (up to modification year 17/2), 222 (up to modification year 17/2), 253 (up to modification year 19/1), the range can be reset by resetting the trip computer ("From reset", "From start" and "Day cycle counter"). After the reset, a value based on the certified range will be shown. For electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles of model series 205 (from modification year 18/2), 213 (from modification year 18/1), 222 (from modification year 18/1), 253 (from modification year 19/2) and model series 118, 167, 177, 206, 223, 247, 293, 295, 297 a reset is only possible by resetting the head unit to the factory settings. This will delete all saved customer data and any settings made (e.g. radio settings, navigation destinations). If necessary, therefore, back up the customer data onto a USB flash drive using the Backup function before performing a reset. As from vehicles with NTG 7, Mercedes me is used for the making the backup. After the reset, an empirical value is displayed that is based on normal use of the vehicle and the current climatic conditions (set temperature and outside temperature - commensurately higher values will be achieved if the air conditioning system is switched off). Depending on driving style, outside temperature and which power consumers are actually switched on, the achieved range may significantly exceed this range, but likewise may also fall significantly short of it. Further information on battery capacity and aging can be found in document SI47.70-P-0070A.

Accidental or unnoticed activation of the button to open the tailgate on the vehicle key. E.g. when stored in trouser pocket, handbag etc. Remedy As of the 6th generation, the vehicle key can be recoded so that the tailgate no longer opens as a result of a long press on the button, but by double-clicking on the button instead. The recoding can be carried out as follows: 1. Add AO code O19 in VeDoc (O as in the letter "O" for Oscar, not the number "0"/zero) 2. EZS N73: Perform SCN coding 3. Deactivate the vehicle key (a successful deactivation is indicated by the LED lighting up 2x briefly and then 1x for a long period). 4. Then perform a test drive.
Complaint Headlamps leaking or fogged Cause The fogging of the headlamp is a natural phenomenon which can occur under certain climatic conditions.
Read full bulletin
In contrast to a leaky headlamp, physical fogging does not result in a technical impairment of the headlamp. A leak test must be performed to determine if physical fogging exists or if the headlamp is leaky. Remedy Check for external damage: You can identify a damaged headlamp in the following way: For headlamps with a closed system 1. Check the headlamps for any external damage and check also for correct seating of the Gore-diaphragm/correct latching of the cover caps. 2. If the headlamp exhibits any external damage, replace the headlamp. For headlamps with an open system 1. Check the headlamps for any external damage and seal off the vent, then make sure the cover caps are latched correctly into place. 2. If the headlamp exhibits any external damage, replace the headlamp. Note: External damage to the headlamp does not present a warranty or goodwill case. 1. Clear fogged/condensed LED headlamps and LED rear lamps: 1. Drive the vehicle into the workshop (temperature higher than +18 C/+64.4F). Note: Do not perform an engine wash before the defogging test. 2. Switch off the engine and connect battery support via a charger. 3. Open the hood or trunk. 4. Switch on the lights. 5. Leave the vehicle in this state for 60 minutes. 6. Check for formation of condensation, a significant reduction in the formation of condensation must be clearly recognizable (thawing progress). 7. If the condensation has disappeared, nothing else has to be done. Note: If defrosting has been performed, you can skip the first step. 2. Leak test of headlamp with overpressure: Connect test adapter to pressure tester. (Figure 1) Check test adapter for leak tightness. To do so, connect plug and coupling (picture 2) and apply a maximum overpressure of 30 mbar. The pressure must remain constant. If the pressure does not remain constant, use a new adapter. All vents have to be sealed with sealing compound and the existing diaphragm with the stamp (picture 3 [3]). (Picture 4) Make allowance for the different headlamp variants here (there are different outlet openings). Check if the headlamp needs to be removed to gain access to the diagnostic socket on the headlamp housing. Plug the adapter onto the diagnostic socket on the headlamp housing. (Picture 5). Apply a maximum of 30 mbar overpressure to the headlamp housing. Note: If the maximum overpressure of 50 mbar is exceeded the headlamp seal will be damaged (picture 6). If a pressure drop of less than 10 mbar is measured within 30 seconds, the headlamp is tight and there is natural physical condensation. If a higher pressure drop than 10 mbar is measured within 30 seconds, the headlamp is leaky. Note: The leaky position can be localized with the aid of soap suds. If the pressure test is not passed, the headlamp is leaky. If the cause cannot be rectified, the headlamp must be replaced. Note: If the headlamp is replaced, no dry packs may be installed on the new replacement headlamp. AR82.10-P-5455WT was created for the pressure test. This AR can be used as a reference manual for all closed headlamps. In the event of an open headlamp system, the vent ducts must be sealed before the pressure test.

occur under certain climatic conditions. It does not lead to any technical impairment of the headlamp. Remedy NOTE: If a pressure compensation diaphragm is fitted in the housing cover, then the lamp unit is a "closed system". Headlamp: Remedy 1 Clearing fogged/condensed LED headlamps and LED rear lamps: 1. Drive vehicle into workshop (temperature higher than +18 C/+64.4 F) and connect the exhaust extraction. Clearing fogged/condensed halogen/xenon headlamps: 1. Drive the vehicle into the workshop (temperature higher than +18 C/+64.4F). Note: Do not perform an engine wash before the defogging test. 2. Switch off the engine. 3. Open the hood. 4. Switch off the lights. 5. Leave the vehicle in this state for 60 minutes. 6. Check for formation of condensation, a significant reduction in the formation of condensation must be clearly recognizable (thawing progress). Note: If there is no visible reduction in the formation of condensation, check the headlamp for damage. (See Remedy 2) It is not physically possible to defog the headlamps completely. Fogging does not impair the operation or the service life of the headlamp. Remedy 2 A damaged headlamp can be identified as follows: 1. Check the headlamp for external damage and that the cover caps and the diaphragm are correctly seated. 2. Check the electrical connectors of the plugs and pins. 3. Check for leak tightness in accordance with LI82.10-P-078896 The test can only be conducted on headlamps. 4. If the headlamp or the rear lamp has any external damage, replace the component part in accordance with the WIS instructions.

Cause Missing diaphragm on high voltage PTC (interior heating) N33/14 component part results in moisture buildup in the installation space for the heater and causes an insulation fault. The entry of moisture into the high voltage PTC (interior heating) N33/14 in the high voltage wiring harness to the DC/DC converter N83/1 causes a slow-acting insulation fault. This may occur sporadically only to start with before actively developing over time. Remedy Exchange high voltage PTC (interior heating) N33/14 with new part with diaphragm (production date as from 22T231, see component part label). If necessary, and after further testing/measurement, replace wiring harness for DC/DC converter N83/1 to high voltage PTC (interior heating) N33/14. Note: According to the Replacement Parts Department only high voltage PTCs (interior heating) with a diaphragm and with production date as from 22T231 are available!

Cause Fogging of the rear lamps is a natural phenomenon, which can occur under certain climatic conditions. This does not lead to any technical impairment of the rear lamps. Remedy Rear lamp: Remedy 1: Clearing fogged/condensed rear lamps: 1. Drive the vehicle into the workshop (temperature higher than +18 C/+64.4 F) Note: Do not wash the vehicle or subject it to high-pressure cleaning before the defogging test. 2. Switch off the engine and connect battery support via a charger. 3. Open the trunk. 4. Switch on the exterior lighting. 5. Leave the vehicle in this state for 60 minutes. 6. Check for formation of condensation -> a significant reduction in the formation of condensation must be clearly recognizable (defogging progress). Note: -If no reduction in the degree of fogging is visible, the rear lamp is defective and must be replaced. -It is not physically possible to defog the headlamps completely some residual fogging may remain. Fogging does not impair the functionality or the service life of the rear lamps. -Simultaneous fogging of multiple component parts indicates extreme climatic conditions and also does not impair the functionality or the service life of the rear lamps. Remedy 2: You can recognize a defective rear lamp as follows: 1. Check the rear lamps to ensure that no external damage is present, and that the differential aeration cells and the diaphragm are present and correctly seated. -> If there are signs of external damage on the rear lamp, the component parts must be replaced as per WIS instructions. 2. Check the electrical connectors of the plugs and pins. -> If moisture/corrosion/etc. is present, the component part must be replaced as per WIS instructions. 3. Check for leak tightness -> Close all openings with Terostat IX or similar and establish and stabilize via an overpressure (4050 mbar) via the plug. -> In the event of a sudden pressure drop, the component part must be replaced as per WIS instructions. Note: External damage to the rear lamps does not constitute a warranty or goodwill case.

In the area of the paneling section of the door, paint damage could be present (picture 1) and/or an abrasion point could be present at the door handle (picture 2). Cause The door handle could be installed too low in the y direction and/or the z direction (picture 3); as a result, the door handle could brush the door at the paneling section of the door. Remedy 1.) Loosen screws from bearing bracket (picture 4, step 1). 2.) Remove bearing bracket (see picture 4, step 2) from door. The door handle must be in pulled-in position. Open the affected door and push the door lock's rotary tumbler into the main catch. Lock the vehicle using the transmitter key so that the door handle is pulled in. Detach plug connector from bearing bracket (center slot). 3.) Paint over paint damage at door paneling (see picture 1) according to manufacturer specifications, using spot repair procedure if necessary. 4.) Loosen old assembly frame (picture 5, step 3). The assembly frame is bonded. Remove adhesive residue at front door. Bonding surfaces must be free of dust, oil, grease, wax, dirt residues and other adhesive components. Otherwise, this can lead to bonding problems. See "Parts" for part number of cleaning agent. 5.) Position new assembly frame (picture 5, step 3) at door. Remove protective film of tape at assembly frame beforehand. The assembly frame (picture 5, step 3) must have the same clearance all around the flange. 6.) Replace door handle, if an abrasion point (picture 2) is present. 7.) Screw in WITOL fasteners (picture 6) completely at mounting points of bearing bracket (picture 7, step 1) and align screws so that they are flush (picture 7, step 2). 8.) Position bearing bracket (picture 4, step 2). The door handle must have the same clearance all around in relation to the paneling section of the door (picture 8). 9.) Press the bearing bracket firmly against the paneling of the door and tighten the screws (picture 4, step 1) (=> torque: 6 Nm). 10.) Check the positioning of the bearing bracket. If necessary, loosen the screws slightly, readjust the bearing bracket slightly, then retighten the screws (=> torque: 6 Nm).

In contrast to a leaky headlamp, physical fogging does not result in a technical impairment of the headlamp. A leak test must be performed to determine if physical fogging exists or if the headlamp is leaky. Remedy In advance, observe LI82.10-P-078301 "Headlamps or Front Fog Lamps Leaking or Fogged". 1. Prepare headlamp/check for external damage: For headlamps with a closed system 1. Check the headlamps for any external damage and check also for correct seating of the Gore-diaphragm/correct latching of the cover caps. 2. If the headlamp exhibits any external damage, replace the headlamp. For headlamps with an open system 1. Check the headlamps for any external damage and seal off the vent then make sure the cover caps are latched correctly into place. 2. If the headlamp exhibits any external damage, replace the headlamp. Note: A headlamp with external damage is not a warranty or goodwill case. Seal all the outlet openings using sealing compound and the given diaphragm with the plunger (picture 3). Note: If the maximum overpressure of 50 mbar is exceeded the headlamp seal will be damaged. If a pressure drop of less than 10 mbar is measured within 30 seconds, the headlamp is not leaky and the problem is down to natural physical fogging. If a pressure drop of more than 10 mbar is measured within 30 seconds, the headlamp is leaky. Note: The leaky position can be localized with the aid of soap suds. Replace any leaky headlamps. Note: Desiccant packs can be installed for headlamps that are not leaky. The noise is normal behavior under the conditions listed. With very light brake pressure this noise can be induced/caused due to normal brake pad and brake rotor vibrations. Exchanging brake components will not rectify.

generated by a micromovement on the contact surface between the rim and the brake disk (wheel bolt group) and may be intensified by potential soiling. The more lightweight rim (AMG forged rim) transmits the noise louder; in the case of cast rims, the noise is generally not perceptible. This is not a technical defect, but rather a complaint concerning comfort. Safe operation of the vehicle is ensured at all times. Remedy Important note: The operations described below do not represent a permanent remedy in every case. The noise may reoccur again after an indefinite period of time; sanding the rims with abrasive media multiple times is not permissible. Only cleaning using the Hazet tool 4960-160 (recommendation) can be performed without any concerns each time the wheel is changed or if the complaint reoccurs. Replacing the parts (rim, wheel bolts, wheel bearings, wheel hub, brake disk) is not expedient in the event of this complaint. Clean the components of the wheel bolt connection according to the WIS instructions Sand down the rim and brake disk bowl by performing the following steps: Manually sand rim (old design only) in area of water drain bores (Figure 1; item A), approx. 1.5 cm left and right of water drain bore (Figure 2) Note: Use abrasive paper with grit size 80. The grooving in this area should no longer be visible (sand down approx. 0.1-0.2mm) Also sand brake disk bowl using emery cloth or abrasive paper with a grain size of 120 For vehicles equipped with the AMG ceramic brake system (B07), abrasive paper may not be used for cleaning on the brake disk side Note: Do not use any cleaning agent when cleaning on the rim side. Cleaning using abrasive paper with a grain size of 80 will suffice. Do not apply any grease, lubricant or paste after cleaning The brake disk bowl should be "bare metal" in the area of the imprints made by the hole (Figure 3)

The clunk is heard once when changing from forward to reverse (and vice versa). Note: Sound file in attachment Cause If the complaint is eliminated by experimentally loosening the outboard collar nut (by 1 turn), the problem is due to micromovement in the connection between the wheel bearing inner race and the joint housing of the side shaft. Note: The collar nut must always be replaced after being loosened and must be tightened to the specified torque. Remedy Coat contact surface of side shaft with wheel bearing with Molykote paint. To do this, proceed as follows: 1. Remove outboard side shafts (extract outer joint gearing from wheel hub) 2. Clean contact surface A (see image file in attachment "Outer joint housing before") before coating with Molykote, using "spirit" (free of dust and grease) 3. Coat contact surface A (see image file in attachment "Outer joint housing after") using Molykote and leave to dry for one hour in removed condition 4. Reinstall side shafts

Cause Noise in the backrest adjustment mechanism Remedy The adjustment mechanism is treated with dry lubricant spray A000 989 35 60 to rectify the noise. To do this, proceed as follows: Move the seat to the front position and put the backrest into a lying position. Due to the risk of soiling on the left and right under the adjustment mechanism, cover and protect the area. Spray into the gap of the left and right adjustment mechanism with dry lubricant spray from above. If the noise persists, then repeat the process. Enough dry lubricant spray must be used Then wait 15 minutes and leave the seat in this position! Only then adjust the seat into the sitting position. Note: Both front seats must always be treated!

1 bulletinComplaint Damage or discoloration to paint protection films on vehicle.

Cause Chip protection films are a wear item that may need to be replaced over the life of the vehicle. They are typically not covered by vehicle warranty. Remedy To properly install a paint/chip protection film, please follow the below guidelines: #1 - Utilize a solution that is 0.2% soap solution (1,000ml of water + 2ml of liquid soap). #2 - Clean the paint surface and ensure it is dust-free. #2a - When cleaning, you can utilize isopropyl alcohol (Rubbing Alcohol) to assist with cleaning. #2b - We recommend a lint-free rag for secondary dusting. #3 - Wet hands with the soapy water solution to protect the adhesive surface. #4 - Remove the backing paper from the film completely. #5 - Moisten the vehicle surface with the soapy water. You can also lay the protective film with adhesive side out onto the wetted surface to also cover the adhesive layer in the soapy water solution. #6 - Remove film and flip over to gently place adhesive side against the paint surface. #7 - Working from the center out, use a squeegee to press the soapy water solution out from under the film. Use sufficient pressure to firmly press the film into the paint surface, but not an excessive amount to damage or stretch the film. #8 - Allow film and paint to "cure" until all of the moisture has evaporated. At this time the adhesive should be dried and cured enough for sufficient hold to release the vehicle.
