SPECIAL SERVICE INFORMATION & SPECIFICATIONS FOR GDI HIGH PRESSURE FUEL SYSTEM - This bulletin has been revised to include additional information.

Read full bulletin

This bulletin provides information relating to all Kia vehicles equipped with Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engines. In these engines highly pressurized gasoline is injected via a common fuel rail and injectors that deliver fuel directly into the combustion chamber of each cylinder. In comparison, in a conventional Multi-Point Fuel Injection (MPI) engine, the gasoline is injected into the intake port of each cylinder at a relatively low pressure. Due to high fuel pressure in a GDI system, servicing the GDI system requires special attention and handling procedures. This bulletin provides special service information and specifications for the GDI fuel system components.

Parking Distance Warning (PDW) alerts and repairs involving ultrasonic sensors. The PDW system alerts the driver while parking, by calculating distance based on the difference in signal transmission and reception times between the vehicle (ultrasonic sensor) and an object. The membrane film of the ultrasonic sensor is used for object detention and can be damaged by stone chips or foreign substances while driving. Damage to the cover of the ultrasonic sensor can also lead to damage to the internal circuit. As a result of this external damage, the PDW system may not receive the proper signal from the ultrasonic sensor. In some cases, the system may cause a false alarm, no alert, or phantom warnings by a Warning Lamp to be displayed on the cluster. The ultrasonic sensor membrane film should be always inspected for external damage and if any part replacement should be treated as a general repair, not as a warranty claim repair for this concern. (Please note that this Pitstop only applies to models/trims that are equipped with the ultrasonic sensors.)

REPLACE THE DRUM GEAR IN THE POWER SLIDING DOOR RELEASE ACTUATORS TO IMPROVE THE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE POWER SLIDING DOORS IN 2015MY SEDONA EX, SX, SXL, AND CERTAIN LX MODEL VEHICLES PRODUCED FROM JULY 21, 2014 THROUGH SEPTEMBER 5, 2014. SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS INVOLVING TEMPERATURES OF 14F, OR LOWER, COULD PREVENT THE DRUM GEAR IN THE RELEASE ACTUATOR OF THE POWER SLIDING DOORS FROM RELEASING, THUS INHIBITING LATCHING. IF THIS OCCURRED, THE SLIDING DOOR WOULD TYPICALLY BE PUSHED SLIGHTLY OPEN, AND THE DOOR-OPEN INDICATORS, INCLUDING CHIMES, DASHBOARD TELLTALES, AND DOME LIGHTS WOULD ACTIVATE. ADDITIONAL SOUND AND VISUAL MESSAGES WOULD BE RECEIVED AS THE VEHICLE STARTS TO BE DRIVEN AWAY. TO CORRECT THIS CONCERN, FOLLOW THE PROCEDURE OUTLINED IN THIS BULLETIN. BEFORE CONDUCTING THE PROCEDURE, VERIFY THE VEHICLE IS INCLUDED IN THE LIST OF AFFECTED VINS.

Depending on the specific model, the HVAC control head monitors ambient temperature and/or cabin humidity to determine which settings will best prevent the windows from fogging. If the system detects lower ambient temperature or higher cabin humidity, the defogging logic may automatically switch ON the A/C, and/or set the air intake mode to Fresh Air. If the user changes these settings, the defogging logic will take control again after 3 to 5 minutes, depending on the procedure in this publication.
