refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-00 for oil leak inspection and testing methods. Ford has evaluated turbochargers replaced for oil leak symptoms and although oil may collect on the external surface of a turbocharger, it is extremely rare for a turbocharger assembly to be the root cause of the oil leak. Careful inspection of the turbocharger oil feed and drain tubes should be performed along with the recommended WSM procedures as needed. Warranty claims for turbocharger replacement going forward will be assessed.

pulley removal, or a drive belt component failure. The crankshaft pulley to be slightly out of alignment in relation to engine top dead center (TDC) causing an incorrect crankshaft position (CKP) sensor signal. To determine this as the cause of the rolling idle, position the crankshaft at TDC using essential special service tool (ESST) 303-748 then remove the CKP Sensor and attempt to install ESST 303-1550. If the bolt to hold 303-1550 cannot be installed by hand, this indicates that the crank pulley is not properly installed. Using a new crank bolt, install the pulley/vibration damper in its proper alignment following the WSM procedure in 303-01. Use ESST 303-393A to hold the flexplate/crankshaft when torqueing down the crank bolt.

Follow the Cooling System Pressure Test procedure in Workshop Manual(WSM), Section 303-03, pressurize the cooling system to 138 kPa (20 psi) and hold for 5 hours. If cooling system pressure drops 27.57kPa(4psi) after 5 hours and internal engine coolant loss is confirmed, further investigation of the head gasket interface is required. Carefully inspect cylinder block for erosion, pitting, and flatness. Defects will be between the engine block cylinders and cylinder bore bridges. If defects with the surface of the cylinder block and/or cylinder head are identified, follow WSM, Section 303-01A procedures for repairs. Complete cost cap as needed to determine the most cost effective repair.

It is also not recommended to order a replacement module using a vehicle identification number (VIN) from a different vehicle. Most modules on these affected vehicles are VIN/vehicle specific and hardware variations between modules do exist. Swapping a module from a vehicle or ordering a module using a different vehicle/VIN can cause ineffective repairs and additional vehicle down time. Make sure all appropriate Workshop Manual (WSM) procedures are followed when diagnosing the condition prior to all module replacements and only order modules using the correct VIN.
