in the WSM, located in Section 307-01 > Diagnosis and Testing. This updated procedure improves the diagnosis of customer reported transmission concerns and aids in locating the proper root cause. During diagnosis and testing, details regarding whether the condition is more prevalent when the vehicle is hot or cold, throttle percentage at the time of occurrence, vehicle speed, the specific shift involved, and whether the issue occurs during transmission engagements (N>R, N>D, R>D, or D>R) should be noted. Engineering requests including these detailed operating conditions that will significantly assist with root cause analysis. Diagnosis, testing, and repair should use established labor times outside this article.

This noise may occur on initial start-up after a cold soak of 6 hours or more that may last for 2-5 seconds. This may be due to an internal component of the variable cam timing (VCT) unit. Some 2021-2025 Ford/ Lincoln vehicles equipped with SYNC4 may not be able to perform an update to the accessory protocol interface module (APIM).

This may be due to the software in the APIM. Ford Engineering has de-activated the ability to update these SYNC4 APIM modules as applicable, and the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS) will not present an update for the APIM module. Some existing directed repairs may be impacted, check Professional Technician System (PTS) before attempting any specific technical service bulletin (TSB)/special service message (SSM) and check field service action (FSA) landing pages before attempting any FSA repairs. For any vehicle repairs requiring a software update that includes an APIM update in the programming sequence, if the 5-digit product code for the APIM software is equal to or lower than 23187, do not attempt to update affected modules at this time. To determine the 5-digit product code for the APIM software on the vehicle, while the vehicle center display screen is powered up with ignition in run or accessory, go to Settings > General > About SYNC.

transmission may exhibit diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, and P0304 and may be accompanied by a buck/jerk sensation while driving between 35-55 mph (56-89 km/h) in gears 7-10. If the condition remains after normal engine misfire diagnostics and associated repairs have been performed, the condition may be related to driveline torsional vibration induced by the rear wheels and/or rear axle assembly. The driveline torsional harmonics/vibrations are incorrectly identified by the misfire monitor as an engine misfire. Perform standard road force wheel balancing of all four tire and wheel assemblies and retest. If the condition continues to occur, replace the ring and pinion gearset in the rear axle. For claiming, use causal part 4209 and applicable labor operations found in Section 04 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual.

This may be due to incorrect cylinder to DTC mapping within the PCM. This means the DTCs listed may set against the incorrect cylinder. Even though the cylinder to DTC mapping is incorrect in the PCM, the presence of these DTCs means that a real ignition system concern is present that requires diagnosis and repair. Prior to performing a pinpoint test for one of the listed DTCs, it will be necessary to identify the correct cylinder that has the issue. Do this by using the Ford diagnosis and repair system (FDRS) to perform a cylinder power balance test. If the results show two cylinders dropping out, begin diagnosing the ignition system components for the cylinder that is dropping out and not setting an ignition related DTC. Due to the incorrect cylinder to DTC mapping

refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-00 for oil leak inspection and testing methods. Ford has evaluated turbochargers replaced for oil leak symptoms and although oil may collect on the external surface of a turbocharger, it is extremely rare for a turbocharger assembly to be the root cause of the oil leak. Careful inspection of the turbocharger oil feed and drain tubes should be performed along with the recommended WSM procedures as needed. Warranty claims for turbocharger replacement going forward will be assessed.

proper torque of the crankshaft pulley bolt is critical. Incorrect torque may allow the bolt to loosen resulting in the timing gear breaking and engine damage. Replacement of the bolt is critical to the repair and accurately following the installation procedure in the Workshop Manual (WSM) Section, 303-01 is extremely important. The bolt torque procedure can be found in the crankshaft front seal removal and installation procedure or in the engine assembly procedure.
Some 2021-2023 Bronco (non-Raptor) vehicles built on or before 09-Jul-2023 may exhibit a fluid leak from the front drive axle pinion seal.

This may be due to operating the vehicle under high load. If leaking, replace the pinion seal following Workshop Manual (WSM) section 205-03A > Removal and Installation > Drive Pinion Flange and Seal. To prevent subsequent seal leaks, the front differential fluid must also be replaced using the revised specification Motorcraft SAE 75W-85 Premium Synthetic Hypoid Gear Lubricant, part number XY-75W85-QL. Refer to WSM section 205-03A > General Procedures > Differential Draining and Filling. For claiming use causal part number 3254 with applicable labor operations in Section 3 of the Service Labor Time Standards (SLTS) Manual and M-Time. The whine noise may become louder when the transmission is at operating temperature and may increase with engine revolutions per minute (RPM) in the park (P) position. A small amount of whine noise is considered to be characteristic of the 10R60/10R80/10R80 MHT/10R100 transmissions due to the offset gear drivetrain in the front support and has no effect on durability. It is also not recommended to order a replacement module using a vehicle identification number (VIN) from a different vehicle.
