Some 2021-2025 Ford/ Lincoln vehicles equipped with SYNC4 may not be able to perform an update to the accessory protocol interface module (APIM).

Read full bulletin

This may be due to the software in the APIM. Ford Engineering has de-activated the ability to update these SYNC4 APIM modules as applicable, and the Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS) will not present an update for the APIM module. Some existing directed repairs may be impacted, check Professional Technician System (PTS) before attempting any specific technical service bulletin (TSB)/special service message (SSM) and check field service action (FSA) landing pages before attempting any FSA repairs. For any vehicle repairs requiring a software update that includes an APIM update in the programming sequence, if the 5-digit product code for the APIM software is equal to or lower than 23187, do not attempt to update affected modules at this time. To determine the 5-digit product code for the APIM software on the vehicle, while the vehicle center display screen is powered up with ignition in run or accessory, go to Settings > General > About SYNC.

refer to Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-00 for oil leak inspection and testing methods. Ford has evaluated turbochargers replaced for oil leak symptoms and although oil may collect on the external surface of a turbocharger, it is extremely rare for a turbocharger assembly to be the root cause of the oil leak. Careful inspection of the turbocharger oil feed and drain tubes should be performed along with the recommended WSM procedures as needed. Warranty claims for turbocharger replacement going forward will be assessed.

and/or boom noise while driving in gears 5-8 at approximately 1500 engine revolutions per minute (RPM). This may be felt more when the engine is under a light to moderate load. A vibration and/or boom noise could be generated from the firing frequency of the 3 cylinders or when cylinder deactivation occurs and the engine is running on 2 cylinders. Compare to a like vehicle before attempting to diagnose as this condition may be characteristic. Setting the vehicle's drive mode to SPORT may eliminate the condition by changing the shift points of the transmission. Refer to the Owner's Manual for information on drive mode control and how to select them.

Secondly, in the low beam pattern there is some light directed upward to satisfy regulatory requirements and also to assist with overhead sign visibility. This a characteristic of the vehicle. Do not attempt any repairs for this condition.

These dark spots are most noticeable when the high beam is active. Although this dark spot is present by design, this issue may be more perceivable to the customer if the headlamps are aimed too low (dark spot will appear closer to vehicle). The vertical aim should be checked and adjusted upwards if necessary, refer to Workshop Manual (WSM) Section 417-01.
