Condition/Concern Some customers may comment that the Malfunction Indicator Lamp flashes when accelerating from a stop or after a steady cruise. The customer may also note that the engine speed was between 2000-4400 RPM when the light illuminated. Depending on the circumstances, some customers may state that no driveability concerns were present while others may state they had considerable driveability impacts. When checking the vehicle for DTCs, the Engine Control Module (ECM) may report DTC P0300 Engine Misfire Detected and/or P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected set in history.

The second condition is that fog lamps are inoperative and the vehicle is vehicle is equipped with the halogen headlamps Regular Production Option Code T4A. This is also a normal operating characteristic based on the vehicle build. Fog lamps were not offered on the LS trim level coupes. The third condition would be the customer asking for the fog lamps to be added or turned on. General Motors does not have an approved fog lamp kit that can be installed on a Camaro that was not originally equipped with that feature.

A customer may complain of misfires or roughness on cold start up with a P0300 diagnostic trouble code. Technician is to add coolant dye to the system and run the engine through warm up to circulate the dye. Pressurize the cooling system after a cold soak and inspect the cylinder with a bore scope for coolant dye. Dye is used to identify coolant over residual fuel being that might be left in the cylinder. The technician is not to replace the cylinder head as it will not correct this concern. In some cases it is necessary to remove the head for inspection. Do not replace the engine for small surface pock marks or a pitting appearance this is normal and do not connect to coolant passages. Usually if porosity is present there will be a break in the carbon ring. Only replace the engine if true porosity is found. Technician is to call Product Quality Center with the latest version of bulletin 02-07-30-029 if porosity is found and engine replacement is required.
