INFORMATION If an i3 or i8 is brought in for service with a Service Engine Soon (MIL) lamp illuminated, or with a customer concern that the MIL is intermittently illuminated, troubleshoot with ISTA/D. During diagnosis, refer to the functional description (FUB), Troubleshooting Malfunction Indicator Lamp I01. This document explains the rationale behind what triggers an MIL on an electrified vehicle, as well as some diagnostic hints. If these diagnostics do not lead to a root cause and a solution, continue with the following: ? Do not clear faults with ISTA/D. ? Use the recommended ACTRON OBD scan tool to read out any code (P or U code) that is present. The ACTRON scan tool was sent to BMW centers via the automatic tool shipment program. For more information on this tool, refer to SI B04 18 15. ? Record any and all P/U codes. ? Look up the relevant code[s] in the attached document, SAE_P-Code_List.pdf. This list provides the description for BMW specific P/U codes. ? Match the P/U code[s] to the fault codes stored in the vehicle. Typically the P/U code description is very close to the fault code title. - NOTE: Even though multiple OBD-relevant fault codes may be stored in the vehicle, the P/U code displayed is what triggered the MIL. Therefore, continue diagnostics for the fault code associated with the P/U code displayed. ? If no P/U codes are displayed and ISTA/D diagnostics are inconclusive, submit a TC PuMA case entitled Check Engine Light - No Relevant Faults to either ""BMW i3 Powertrain Components"" or ""i8 Powertrain Components"" for further assistance. -The P code and diagnosis summary should be included in the case."

Automated Activation of Navigation System During PDI/QC1.
Read full bulletin
INFORMATION Important: The INITIAL NAV enabling code no longer needs to be pre-ordered through the Parts department! When the vehicle is connected to the diagnostic system ISTA to perform PDI/QC1, the step to activate the navigation system (part of Delete Transport Mode) will automatically request the INITIAL NAV enabling code (VIN-specific) without pre-ordering the enabling code. This enabling code will be automatically delivered through ISTA and it then activates the navigation system. Note: This VIN-specific NAV enabling code is then also automatically stored in the Repair Kit in the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP). The automated INITIAL NAV enabling code request and activation of the navigation system will take no longer than 1 minute. After finishing "Delete Transport Mode," the navigation system in the vehicle will be active without entering the 20-digit INITIAL NAV enabling code manually or in ISTA. If the navigation system is not active and asking for the enabling code, turn off the ignition and wait for the head unit to enter sleep mode (approx. 3 minutes). After that, turn on the ignition again. The head unit will start up and the navigation system is activated. If the INITIAL NAV enabling code for first-time activation of the navigation system is not requested or delivered automatically, it still can be ordered manually through the Parts department and activated in the vehicle through the iDrive controller, by entering the 20-digit enabling code manually.

"High Beam Laser Light Information.
Read full bulletin
INFORMATION Laser headlights will be available as optional equipment SA5AZ. The laser headlight is a combined LED/laser headlight. Low- and high-beam headlights are generated by LEDs, as in LED headlight. The additional high beam (high beam booster) is generated by a laser. - Multiple high-performance light emitting diodes emit highly bundled laser beams (blue light) via special optics on to a deflection mirror. The deflection mirror directs the laser light to a phosphorous membrane. There, by use of yellow phosphorous, a strongly illuminating white light is generated (as with LEDs) from the blue laser light. - The light generated by the laser headlight is a very white light. - Laser beams are not emitted by the laser headlight. With an almost 1969 feet (600 m) range, the additional laser high beam illuminates almost twice as far as the high beam from an LED headlight. When the high-beam assistant function is activated, the laser high beam is added to the high beam of the LED headlights above a driving speed of approx. 43 MPH (70 km/h). When the driving speed falls below 43 MPH, all high beam headlights are switched off with a lag; and immediately off when the driving speed falls below 37 MPH (60 km/h). NOTE: When the vehicle is being operated while stationary (on a roller test stand), do not look into the light beam. It is not possible for the driver to manually switch the additional laser high beam on and off, as can be done with conventional high beams. This is true both when driving and when the vehicle is at a standstill. designates changes to this revision SUBJECT Headunit High: Navigation System Road Map Usage. INFORMATION The Headunit High (HU-H), also called NBT, began replacing the Car Information Computer (CIC) on certain MY2013 vehicles with option 609. This change will affect the navigation system road map data support process and the warranty spare parts processes for the HU-H. For the US market, all vehicles will come pre-loaded from the factory with the latest navigation system road map database version that was available at the time of vehicle production. Therefore, there will be no physical copy of the navigation system road map data media DVD set or USB stick placed in these vehicles at the Vehicle Distribution Center (VDC). NOTE: Additionally, all replacement HU-H parts come with a pre-loaded version of the current available navigation system road map database installed. A set of DVD copies of the navigation system road map database, HU-H NAVI Road Map North America NEXT, is shipped to all BMW centers through the automatic tool shipment program with each release of a navigation system road map database. IMPORTANT: Additional copies or earlier NAV road map database versions cannot be ordered individually! Therefore, please take special care to archive the HU-H NAV road map DVD sets! The NAV road map data on the DVD set can also be installed into the Network Attached Storage (NAS). From there it then can be installed onto the HU-H in the vehicle, using the Integrated Service Technical Application for Programming (ISTA/P). ?SATELLITE RADIO DETERIORATION IN RECEPTION QUALITY DUE TO NEW CELLULAR FREQUENCIES .

INFORMATION Inform the customer that the introduction of these expanded frequencies by the wireless mobile providers may be influencing reception quality. BMW is currently working with the wireless mobile providers in order to improve the quality of reception and help alleviate the issues that are caused by the wireless mobile expanded frequencies. Once we have more information about this situation this service information bulletin will be updated. Currently Satellite Radio is provided by SiriusXM for BMW customers via geosynchronous (GEO) satellites located roughly above the equator. This means that the satellite signal to some parts of the United States can come in at an angle as low as 32 degrees to the horizon. Due to this angle, buildings, hills, trees, highway sound blocking walls or other obstacles might block the satellite signal coming from reaching the vehicle receiver antenna and might cause audio cut outs, unless the wireless provider has installed terrestrial repeaters. Reception quality decreases the further north you travel, as the angle of the incoming signal gets smaller. Also adverse weather conditions might affect reception. At this time, in the event of a customer complaint or inquiry on interference noise: Do not replace any parts Do not program or carry out other work on the vehicle Explain to customer about the new Wireless Communications Service (WCS) signals When investigating Satellite Radio cutouts or a temporary loss of reception: Please compare to a similarly equipped vehicle. Keep in mind the roofline of the vehicle, size of the antenna (sharkfin) and location of the antenna on the vehicle will all affect the strength of the reception. Do not compare a Sport Activity Vehicle (SAV) with a high roofline mounted antenna to a different vehicle such as a coupe or convertible with a much lower mounting point of the antenna. Replace no parts Do not prog

INFORMATION These faults do NOT indicate brake system malfunction, or cause Check Control message display. Do not replace any parts! Perform a 12V battery reset and clear the fault memory. In case one of the plausibility faults returns after a short test drive, diagnose it using the corresponding ISTA test plan for the wheel speed sensor faults.
SUBJECT Uneven Brake Pad Wear with Regenerative Braking.
Read full bulletin
Under certain vehicle operating conditions, the brake calipers' outer pads (without wear sensor) will wear faster than the inner pads (with wear sensor). This is a normal brake pad wear characteristic that is inherent to the design of this vehicle. CAUSE Certain driving styles can result with a more frequent fluctuation between the use of the vehicle's service brake and its regenerative braking feature, this type of braking characteristic increases the use and consequently the wear of the outer brake pads.
SUBJECT Intermittent Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) Warning Lamp After Low Current Recharging.
Read full bulletin
After recharging the vehicle using the low current setting, the DSC warning lights (ABS, DSC, Brake) may be displayed for a short time (approximately 3 seconds) when drive readiness is activated. Check Control Message: Brake system. Continue driving at a moderate speed. Avoid abrupt braking as far as possible. Drive to the nearest BMW Service centre. This is an intermittent, erroneous fault in the warning lamp control. The DSC system is still fully functional. SME/DSC software.
