The starter motor is broken. It may be indicated by:

??Oil leaking from the Rain/Light Sensor (RLS). Note: This oil serves as a separation medium between the RLS mounting gel pad and the windscreen. The oil ensures damage free disassembly in case of repair. CAUSE The oil that serves as the separation medium of the Rain/Light Sensor (RLS) gel pad and the windscreen leaks out. Expose the Rain/Light Sensor (RLS) and properly clean the area of all oily residue. Note: The separating oil usually leaks only once from the pad at the RLS. Due to the small oil quantity in the gel pad, additional oil leakage is not plausible. Leaking oil does not impair the function of the RLS.

The blower will continue to run with the specified emergency mode after the ignition is turned off and the vehicle is locked."

The soot particles can only be burned off when the required exhaust-gas temperature has been reached. Under certain driving conditions (i.e., prolonged short trips or an exhaust system which never reaches soot burn-off temperatures), the DPF can become restricted. The DDE will initiate periodic regeneration automatically, at the latest after 600 miles. In vehicles making many short distance journeys, periodic regeneration takes place after only 250-500 miles. The plastic fuel tank has two openings, one at the top right and the other at the top left. While driving, a Check Control Message (CCM) is displayed advising of the following: Front collision warning failed Pedestrian detection failed The following fault code is stored in the KAFAS (Camera-based Driver Assistance System): 0X800AC4 - Camera calibration failed The KAFAS camera is not properly mounted and secured to the mounting bracket on the windshield; And/ or: The mounting bracket glued to the windshield is not installed correctly. The pictures below show both incorrect and correct installation. This picture shows the KAFAS camera installed in the bracket. Notice the spacing highlighted by the ""green lines"""

While driving, the Lane Change Warning (Blind Spot Detection) is illuminated erroneously on either outside mirror (orange triangle) when no other vehicles are around. CAUSE F30 - Install the correct sensor frame F34 - Program the vehicle using ISTA/P 3.58.0 or higher.

The low washer fluid warning light is illuminated even though the washer fluid tank is full. There are no faults stored in the system for the washer fluid level switch. CAUSE A non-approved washer fluid is used (fluids that contain a silicone additive, normally colored other than blue). INFORMATION The washer fluid level sensor is a contactless capacitive sensor. The sensor sends a low fluid level signal to the gateway module (FEM - Front Electronics Module or BDC - Body Domain Controller) which in turn displays a low washer fluid warning in the instrument cluster. The use of a ""non-approved"" washer fluid (silicone-based fluid) can cause the low fluid warning light to come on even when the reservoir is full. Refer to ISTA document ""FB-GZ-B17A-F20 Washer fluid level sensor"" for information on how this capacitive sensor operates."

After the transport mode is deleted (during the QC1), a BMW Assist (SOS) test call is made by pressing the SOS/ E-Call button. However, the call only connects via voice (no data is transmitted). The operator indicates that a crash call has been sent. ATM fault code ""B7F348 - Provisioning without signature OTA"" is stored. The provisioning of the ATM (Advanced Telematics Module) has failed."

If an NBT-EVO head unit is swapped into a different vehicle it will enter a locked mode once it recognizes a different VIN. This will require REPLACEMENT of the head unit to restore operation. To prevent easy re-use of stolen Head units additional features are introduced with 11/15 ISTA/P software to bring NBT-EVO to a higher security level. In NBT-EVO the mechanism is called ""Trusted VIN"""

The customer states there is a small twitch/pulse of the steering wheel (1 second intervals) when the steering wheel heating is active. Note: The complaint is more noticeable with a cold steering wheel and vehicle voltage higher than 14 volts. Steering wheel control unit

For audio system speaker testing there is a NED (Non Electrical Diagnosis) Test Plan available. CAUSE We previously recommended use of the Audio Test CD (ATC) from BMW. This CD has been discontinued.

SUBJECT Check Control Messages Related to Battery Charge during Cold Ambient Temperatures. On cold days (an outside ambient temperature below 15F), customers may notice a check control message related to the battery displayed on the instrument cluster and the control information display. The check control message (ID 229) is caused by a heavily discharged battery. The check control message is triggered when the current state of charge (SoC) of the battery approaches the minimum SoC that is required to start the vehicle (start capability limit).

After the high voltage (HV) charging procedure, the stationary climate control (aka preconditioning) does not work. This is part of the normal design. There is no fault or defect.

While trying to activate the horn, one or both horns fail to work. One or more of the following fault codes can be stored in the FEM: "8044A3 - Wiring, horn short circuit to earth" "8044A4 - Wiring, horn short circuit to positive" "8044A5 - Wiring, horn relay is defective or short circuit to positive" Water has entered the horn and caused it to fail internally (shorted out).

A change in the job structure in ISTA causes the BDC to open the 30B relay unexpectedly.

When diagnosing with ISTA or ISTA Next, a fault code (detailed below), regarding the cell voltage measurement, is entered in the battery management electronics (SME). ? 21F0C2 - High-voltage battery, cell supervision circuit 1: Voltage measurement (battery cell), line disconnection ? 21F0C3 - High-voltage battery, cell supervision circuit 2: Voltage measurement (battery cell), line disconnection ? 21F0C4 - High-voltage battery, cell supervision circuit 3: Voltage measurement (battery cell), line disconnection ? 21F0C5 - High-voltage battery, cell supervision circuit 4: Voltage measurement (battery cell), line disconnection ? 21F0C6 - High-voltage battery, cell supervision circuit 5: Voltage measurement (battery cell), line disconnection The customer might not have reported the situation as the fault code could have no effect on the vehicle operation. Erroneous fault in the fault memory of the SME, possible fault in a cell supervision circuit (CSC) or a cell module.

After programming the vehicle with ISTA/P 2.47.1, unlocking the trunk with the remote changes to unlocking all the doors. An application error occurred after programming the vehicle to the Personal Profile Setting (PIA) in the Front Electronic Module (FEM).

Intermittently the Central Information Display (CID) dims and/or flashes off/on. There are two possible root causes for this issue. Cause 1: Voltage supply error from the Headunit-high (HU-H) to the Central Information Display (CID) when the display brightness is set to 60% or higher Cause 2: Calibration data for dimming the Central Information Display (CID) at high temperatures or bright sunlight is set incorrectly internally in the CID.

The vehicle does not start using the Comfort Start feature. The vehicle does start once the remote key is held next to the steering column emergency start area (key symbol at the right side of the column between the white marks). The antenna (aerial) in the passenger compartment near the front of the center console has shorted wiring.

AHL (Active Headlight Control) malfunctions on both sides. Both lights aim either up or down while driving. Fault Code 8041B6 is present. Broken mounting bolt holding on the rear height sensor bracket.

Intermittently, the Central Information Display (CID) flashes off/on. Voltage supply error from the Headunit-high (HU-H) to the Central Information Display (CID) when the display brightness is set to 60% or higher.

INFORMATION Important: The INITIAL NAV enabling code no longer needs to be pre-ordered through the Parts department! When the vehicle is connected to the diagnostic system ISTA to perform PDI/QC1, the step to activate the navigation system (part of Delete Transport Mode) will automatically request the INITIAL NAV enabling code (VIN-specific) without pre-ordering the enabling code. This enabling code will be automatically delivered through ISTA and it then activates the navigation system. Note: This VIN-specific NAV enabling code is then also automatically stored in the Repair Kit in the Aftersales Assistance Portal (ASAP). The automated INITIAL NAV enabling code request and activation of the navigation system will take no longer than 1 minute. After finishing "Delete Transport Mode," the navigation system in the vehicle will be active without entering the 20-digit INITIAL NAV enabling code manually or in ISTA. If the navigation system is not active and asking for the enabling code, turn off the ignition and wait for the head unit to enter sleep mode (approx. 3 minutes). After that, turn on the ignition again. The head unit will start up and the navigation system is activated. If the INITIAL NAV enabling code for first-time activation of the navigation system is not requested or delivered automatically, it still can be ordered manually through the Parts department and activated in the vehicle through the iDrive controller, by entering the 20-digit enabling code manually.

According to the customer, the airbag warning light was on, but it may not be on when the vehicle arrives in the workshop. ACSM fault code ""930A60 - Seat occupancy detection, front passenger; malfunction"" is stored. The fault may or may not currently be present. CAUSE The front passenger seat occupancy mat consists of a seat occupancy mat with a capacitive sensor system. This means a front passenger is detected by measuring the resistance of the human body. The fault is set when moisture is detected on the mat itself."

Rattling noises can be heard from the rearview mirror when driving. CAUSE The mirror electrical connector is loose in the mirror base.

INFORMATION Do not replace any parts. NOTE: First time activation of the navigation system should always be performed during the Quality Certification 1 (QC1) Pre-Delivery Check, with the vehicle connected to the diagnosis system ISTA. Refer to SI B65 30 09. Connect the vehicle to the diagnosis system ISTA and activate the navigation system. The code is entered when running the QC1 Pre-Delivery Check test module. INFORMATION The brightness of the CID will reduce and may switch off completely due to high temperature rise inside the vehicle. This situation is to protect the function of the CID. After lowering the temperature, the normal functions are restored. The increased temperature, protective switch-off is the reason for the fault. The fault code does not indicate a defective head unit. The normal maximum temperature operation for the head unit is between 167 and 194 F. Within these values, the CID will gradually diminish in brightness until it completely switches off. Replacing parts or programing the vehicle will not rectify the situation. The root cause is the very high temperature and is not a fault of the vehicle's systems.

INFORMATION Design of the HUD has limited display area. (It can only show a certain number of text characters). NOTE: Parts replacement or programming the vehicle will not recitify the situation!

Poor Satellite Radio reception CAUSE After this software update there is a slight improvement in Satellite Radio reception for these vehicles when receiving their signal from XM Satellites. This is due to the changeover from Sirius Satellite broadcasting to XM Satellite broadcasting in 2016 (See SI B65 19 15).

While importing a CD to the internal music collection of an NBT head unit the process aborts. You will see 'import error' on the radio display when this occurs. NBT Head Unit software

Customers may be receiving onscreen messages concerning updates of their navigation system. Database mapping procedure in vehicles with the NBT EVO Head Unit (Head Unit high 2) has been changed to automatic, periodic, Over- the-Air (OTA), regional, incremental updates. INFORMATION Customers may not be familiar with the messages seen prior to, during, and after this update which may prompt inquiries. The traffic information is intermittently or permanently inoperative. * Traffic flow is not displayed on the navigation map. * The traffic list is empty. 1. The Offboard Availability (backend) system is unavailable and is not sending traffic information. 2. The traffic information feature is not activated correctly.

The customer complains of front door loudspeaker noises when the temperature is below freezing. CAUSE Water from the door window may enter the rear area of the front door medium range loudspeaker basket/cage and can solidify when the temperature drops below freezing, creating the noise.

After connecting a mobile device via Bluetooth, the Headunit High (HU-H) constantly resets. This is because the mobile device paired/connected to the vehicle contains one or more emails with 30 or more recipients. Note: In this situation, a reset is when the HU-H shuts down and then turns back on. CAUSE Software error in the HU-H.

When replacing the HU-H, the road map database version that was in the defective HU-H must be installed in the new HU-H.

The navigation system is inoperative unless the map is enabled during the QC1 Pre-Delivery Check. INFORMATION New vehicles come equipped with a navigation road map that must be enabled via an enable code (FSC). INFORMATION As of 11/2015, all Entry-NAV/Media head units supplied in new vehicles were upgraded for improved noise characteristics and quality. As a part of this upgrade, the hardware updating the sender lists was changed from an "update after every diversity reception interruption or maximum of four minutes" configuration to "regular interval updates (every four minutes) without regard to diversity reception status" configuration. This may cause a delay of up to four minutes for updates to the sender list when leaving areas of poor reception. The last received transmitter, before the entrance into underground car parking or a tunnel, is still received and will show station identification. This fixed interval update does not apply to Traffic Message Channel updates which remain active. This new equipment operation pattern may be noticed by the customer after replacement of their Head unit. All replacement Head units delivered since 01/2016 have the upgraded design. An immediate solution would be for the customer to select one of their stored favorite stations via the menu or favorites buttons. CAUSE The "functional" operation of the headlight cleaning system was changed with integration level F020-14-07-500. The functional changes to the headlight cleaning system's operation will occur only after programming the vehicle with ISTA/P 2.53.0 or higher. INFORMATION The headlight cleaning system is no longer activated with the first stalk activation when the lights are on. The functional programming change now requires the stalk to be activated four times before headlight cleaning is activated. The change prevents automatic activation of headlight cleaning when the customer only wants to clean his/her windshield. This is normal operation and no parts should be changed.

INFORMATION When a defective high-pressure fuel injector is identified with an index "02" designation, as shown in the illustration below, all 4 injectors must be replaced at the same time. Due to this angle, buildings, hills, trees, highway sound blocking walls or other obstacles might block the satellite signal coming from reaching the vehicle receiver antenna and might cause audio cut outs, unless the wireless provider has installed terrestrial repeaters. Satellite radio is broadcast from two different sets of Satellites using different earth orbits. XM uses geosynchronous (GEO) satellites located roughly above the equator. This means that the satellite signal to some parts of the United States can come in at an angle as low as 32 degrees to the horizon. This is different than Sirius Satellites in a Highly Elliptical Orbit (HEO) which currently come in to the vehicle at a higher angle to the horizon. As of April 2016 Sirius equipped head units will move to the XM Satellites constellation and will show the same location based cutouts. SiriusXM is currently updating the repeater network to cover areas of low reception, but the general disadvantage of geostationary satellites can't be compensated completely. Buildings, hills, trees, highway sound blocking walls or any other obstacles might block the satellite signal coming from the south at a 32 degree elevation angle and might cause audio cut outs in absence of terrestrial repeaters. Reception quality decreases the further north you travel, as the angle of the incoming signal gets flatter. Adverse weather conditions will affect reception. Sirius XM will increase the amount of Sirius and XM repeaters gradually to improve situation in metropolitan areas. When a vehicle comes into the workshop for any repair or maintenance job, the bundling calculator recommends a brake maintenance checkup. No brake warning light is illuminated. CBS shows 3,107 miles or slightly higher for the next brake service displayed via Key Reader, or vehicle's Control Display (in Vehicle Info/Status/Service required/Brake pads) CAUSE CBS calculates the remaining brake pad wear based on brake pressure, speed, vehicle specific parameters (i.e. NAO pads), brake temperature as well as cumulative brake application time. Due to variation of these parameters and outside environmental influences, this calculation can deviate from the real brake pad wear. Starting from the above-mentioned production dates of the vehicles indicated, the CBS brake pad wear calculation has been changed, and is now based only on the brake pad wear sensor.
