Technical background It is possible for the engine coolant Thermostat to corrode over time, this corrosion is due to an adverse reaction of the Thermostat material with the engine coolant. The corrosion and subsequent build-up of debris prevents the correct operation of the thermostat when closing, resulting in over cooling. The ECM triggers a DTC when the target engine temperature is outside of the specified parameter.

The Measure section of this TPI describes how and where to check for air leaks on the front and rear air springs, the air pump compressor, pipes, valve unit and air reservoirs. This includes potential air leak points on the air springs and also the locations of an air leak that can be repaired without the need to replace an air spring.

Engine Lubricating Oil - Replenishment.

Read full bulletin

Customer statement / workshop findings Engine lubricating oil lamp illuminated on driver instrument panel. Engine lubricating oil requires topping up between services. Technical background: In order to provide effective lubrication and cooling of internal engine components, all internal combustion engines consume a certain amount of engine oil. Oil consumption varies from engine to engine and may change significantly over the life of the engine. Typically, engines with specified running-in periods consume more oil during the running-in period, and the oil consumption will stabilize after the running-in period. Refer to the Owners Manual for specific running-in procedures. Under normal conditions, the rate of oil consumption depends on the quality and viscosity of the oil, the RPM at which the engine is operated, ambient temperature and road conditions. Additional factors are the amount of oil dilution from water condensation or fuel residue, and the oxidation level of the oil. Certain driving conditions may negatively influence the rate of oil consumption. This can occur while the vehicle is operated in city driving conditions, for example: stop and go traffic with extended idle periods

Rear seatbelt - Incorrect buckle status within the DIP - New Continental GT/C and New Flying Spur.

Read full bulletin

Customer statement: Incorrect rear seatbelt buckle status shown within the DIP Workshop findings Although there is no occupant evident within the rear seats (2nd row) the rear seat is shown as occupied (Figure 1). Technical background: There is no specific DTC evident for the scenario described. The issue described is evident as the rear seat belt buckles are not resistor coded The system uses a non-resistor coded buckle strategy (zero-infinity or open-closed buckle) for the rear seats. In correct operation, a fastened seatbelt is open circuit and an un-fastened seatbelt is closed circuit If harness damage is present or an electrical connector joint is not properly engaged, an unintended open circuit occurs. This will give an incorrect buckle status reading within the DIP The advice within this TPI should be referred to first before conducting any further diagnosis or disassembly of the vehicles interior Previous assembly/disassembly may have caused an unintentional open circuit when operatives have been working on or around the rear seat belt assemblies.

Customer statement / workshop findings: The gap and fit between the veneer face facia panel of the Bentley rotating display (BRD) and the passenger and drivers side fascia panels may differ from one side to the other Depending on vehicle specification, the chrome brightware strip on the veneer face facia panel of the Bentley Rotating Display (BRD) may appear to be misaligned with the chrome strips on the passenger and/or drivers side fascia panels If the minimum functional gap is not maintained, the operation of the (BRD) unit can be compromised Technical background: The chrome brightware strip is fixed to the veneer face fascia panel (with no separate adjustment) and as such can appear to be misaligned. The veneer face fascia panel relies on fixed location pins that may be out of tolerance Referring to the Measure section, rework the veneer face fascia panel to align the chrome brightware strip and/or the gapping between the BRD and the passenger and drivers side fascia panels If the BRD is partially rotated and unresponsive (e.g not presenting one of the facias) the display must be rotated in order to remove the veneer facia, dials or MMI screen However Manual rotation of the BRD will damage the drive belt and link arm, please raise a DISS query stating the BRD is unresponsive, the DISS query will be evaluated and the BRD unlock procedure will be supplied (If required) Do Not conduct any further work until advised CAUTION: In the event that damage was caused by attempting to rotate the BRD manually without following the BRD unlock procedure the applicable warranty claim may be cancelled

Grease evident at the front lower ball joint bellows.

Read full bulletin

Customer statement / workshop findings: Grease evident on or around the front axle lower ball joint bellows In the event the symptom is as described, the operative should carry out the instructions within the Measure section Technical background: During service work and/or other repairs, a loss of grease can be detected from the front axle lower ball joint on one or both lower ball joint bellows. Measure: Findings performed on supposedly damaged components have shown that they were of good quality, no damage was found to the ball joint bellows which could of resulted in the leak Grease may leak during the initial assembly of the front lower levers. This due to a maximum deflection of the conical spigot before the lower lever is assembled into the wheel carrier. Over the service life, additional foreign bodies can collect in the corresponding area and stick to the excess grease, which can then be distributed over a larger area If there is no customer complaint about noises (rattling, pinching, creaking) from the area of the front axle and the lower levers have clearance, the operative must remove any excess grease and check the ball joint and bellows for damage If the ball joint/bellows is not damaged, the lower lever does not need to be replaced The level of grease on or around the lower ball joint boot/wheel bearing housing (Figures 1,2 and 3) is deemed as a normal characteristic.

Some tiles will naturally take longer to load than others. For example, APPS, NAVIGATION and MEDIA are likely to have a greater delay in loading than other tiles this is due to the amount of external data required to display the relevant information.
