It details the sensors associated with each reference circuit (A, B, and C) and outlines relevant guidance to assist in isolating faults when any of the following DTCs are stored in the Engine Electronics (diagnostic address: 0001)

Condition: Water drips from the front interior light. The water drips directly from the electric drive of the front sun roof motor. Technical Background: A water drop can get onto the guide rail instead of the water flow area of the guide rail. The water runs forwards to the guide tube of the operating cable and from there onto the electric drive.

Technical background It is possible for the engine coolant Thermostat to corrode over time, this corrosion is due to an adverse reaction of the Thermostat material with the engine coolant. The corrosion and subsequent build-up of debris prevents the correct operation of the thermostat when closing, resulting in over cooling. The ECM triggers a DTC when the target engine temperature is outside of the specified parameter.

Customer statement / workshop findings Workshop findings: Buzzing noise heard at idle from the sump area when the vehicle is elevated on a workshop ramp. The noise cannot be heard from inside the cabin or outside of the vehicle in normal circumstances. Technical background: A buzzing noise can be generated by the oil pump when the engine is running at idle. Measure: Test a comparable vehicle with the same Engine derivative. If the same noise is apparent on the comparable vehicle and no oil pressure warnings or relevant DTCs are stored then the noise can be considered a characteristic of the vehicle and no further action should be taken.

Customer statement / workshop findings Engine lubricating oil lamp illuminated on driver instrument panel. Engine lubricating oil requires topping up between services. Technical background: In order to provide effective lubrication and cooling of internal engine components, all internal combustion engines consume a certain amount of engine oil. Oil consumption varies from engine to engine and may change significantly over the life of the engine. Typically, engines with specified running-in periods consume more oil during the running-in period, and the oil consumption will stabilize after the running-in period. Refer to the Owners Manual for specific running-in procedures. Under normal conditions, the rate of oil consumption depends on the quality and viscosity of the oil, the RPM at which the engine is operated, ambient temperature and road conditions. Additional factors are the amount of oil dilution from water condensation or fuel residue, and the oxidation level of the oil. Diagnostic Trouble Code(DTC) P218100 -Cooling System Performance is stored in the Engine Control Module (ECM), the vehicle warm up time is longer when compared to other vehicles of the same type. Technical background: It is possible for the engine coolant Thermostat to corrode overtime, this corrosion is due to an adverse reaction of the Thermostat material with the engine coolant. The corrosion and subsequent build-up of debris prevents the correct operation of the thermostat when closing, resulting in over cooling. The ECM triggers a DTC when the target engine temperature is outside of the specified parameter.

This ticking noise, on initial inspection, is easily misinterpreted as a fault in the valve train or fuel injector, when in reality it is more likely to be produced by a defective vacuum pump. Therefore always ensure that this type of noise is identified precisely using a stethoscope. Specifically use the stethoscope to check the vacuum pump located at the rear of Bank 1 cylinder head, when this is found to be the origin of the noise then change the vacuum pump and retest.

Technical background: We have observed instances where the caps have been difficult to remove once fitted, the issue is caused by corrosion. The valve stem itself is made from aluminium and the accessory valve caps are chromium plated brass, it is possible under certain environmental conditions, particularly winter road salt, for corrosion to take place between these dissimilar metals. Measure: The solution is to apply a thin smear of silicon-based grease, such as Dow Corning high vacuum grease, to the external threads of the valve stem prior to fitting the accessory valve cap. Grease should be applied any time the cap is removed and grease is not evident

Technical background: In order to provide effective lubrication and cooling of internal engine components, all internal combustion engines consume a certain amount of engine oil. Oil consumption varies from engine to engine and may change significantly over the life of the engine. Typically, engines with specified running-in periods consume more oil during the running-in period, and the oil consumption will stabilize after the running-in period. Refer to the Owners Manual for specific running-in procedures. Under normal conditions, the rate of oil consumption depends on the quality and viscosity of the oil, the RPM at which the engine is operated, ambient temperature and road conditions. Technical background: Surface deposits are caused by UV protection additives contained within the A post water deflector migrating to the surface. This migration process is intentionally designed to protect parts from brittleness and ageing, the mottled appearance may occur after a certain length of time and is also dependent on temperature and humidity. Deposits on the surface are normally removed by weathering during normal driving or when washing the vehicle.

Washer fluid additives which do not meet the following specification During winter conditions a solution of 30% isopropyl alcohol and 70% water should be used (or appropriate alternative). This washer fluid and water mixture will provide frost protection down to a temperature of approximately 10 degrees C (14 degrees F). Frozen washer fluid. Distilled water.
